Students in Mr. Watkins’ class are unloading the last batches of projects from the kiln this week. After learning about the rare ceramic art of “death whistles” by ancient Aztecs, they then used their artistic skills to create clay whistles of their own. These whistles don’t sound as terrifying as the screaming Aztec versions, but they are one of the hardest clay challenges by combining art, geometry, and manipulation of physics to shape a ball of raw clay into a custom musical device.
